The official opening of the new Eastern route turned out to be a complete succcess. Runners representing 28 nations competed in Europe's toughest and most spectacular running event. Most of them hailed from Germany, Spain, and Italy.
In the women's category, GORE-TEX® Transalpine Run rookies Tracy Garneau and Nicki Haugan of „Team Canada“ (37:12:58 hours) won a total of seven legs, demonstrating their superiority. Among the Master contestants, Christian Stork and Thomas Miksch of „Team Blt Laufsport Saukel-Haglöfs“ (29:59:48 hours) capitalized on the early elimination of the prior year's winners, Manfred Wurzer and Eugen Innerkofler (Team Niederdorf). In the Mixed Team category, Gertraud Höllrigl and Norbert of „Team Hotel Lindenhof-Adidas Naturns“ came out ahead after a total of 34:41:29 hours.
