The roads on Cape York Peninsula are a challenge to man and material. Dusty red dirt roads strewn with potholes and rife with hairpin curves await you, and every so often you will get to cross a muddy river.
Cape York Peninsula is always worth a trip, and not just to hard-core outdoor freaks. If you don't feel like wielding an ax or a machete to cut your way through the bush, there are fairly reliable roads that will take you to Australia's northernmost point, at least in the summertime. During the rainy season, expect massive rain making any reasonable progress by jeep all but impossible.
