Sydney is a throbbing metropolis. Still, the residents of Australia's largest and oldest city dig a relaxed lifestyle. Small wonder: The ocean is right around the corner and cultural distractions abound.
If you suffer from vertigo, you may want to pass on climbing Sydney's landmark Harbour Bridge. 440 feet tall, the arched bridge spans Port Jackson, Sydney's port. The locals have dubbed the monumental steel structure "coat hanger." But even if you aren't up for scaling such heights, Sydney will not leave you high and dry. For instance, how about a surfing trip to Palm Beach or a stroll through Sydney's old town?
Incidentally, Sydney is not Australia's capital, which is called Canberra, located some 174 miles southwest of Sydney.
