In Alberta, things are more relaxed. The mountains are taller, the snow softer. Biathlon World Cup participants agree: They'll be back cross-country skiing in the Rocky Mountains!

Cross-country skiing in the Rocky Mountains is breathtaking. In Banff and Jasper, there are miles and miles of trails and runs in the lower-altitude areas. Jasper, for instance, offers an enormous variety of trails for cross-country skiers of any level of experience. Beginners will prefer trails around Maligne Lake, Moose Lake, and Upper Moose Lake. The more advanced leave their marks on the banks of Lorraine Lake, at mina Riley Loop or Pyramid Bench. Those with lots of stamina will feel challenged at Patricia Lake Circle and Evelyn Creek. Allison-Chinook Recreation Area in the Crowsnest Pass region truly is paradise. Its 20 miles of trails and runs are maintained weekly.
