Eighteen individuals - 5 cars - 1 mission: Fighting AIDS. On October 6, 2008, extreme athlete Joachim Franz's World Aids Awareness Expedition kicked off its Cape-to-Cape Tour.

The nine-week tour from Norway's North Cape to South Africa's Cape Town had a clear objective: hoisting the "AIDS Summit Flag" on the tallest peaks en route in 20 of 200 countries on the planned itinerary. The flag was supposed to alert to the number of unreported cases in each country.
In addition, the team demonstrated a great deal of commitment off the mountains, participating in numerous news conferences and events during its trip covering more than 13,000 miles.

During Part 1 of the Cape-to-Cape Tour, the team kicks off its strenuous expedition at Norway's North Cape, where the early arrival of winter tests their mettle.
Next, they climb mountains in Finland and Sweden, facing up to the disappointment of not quite making it to some summits to hoist the flag due to a combination of inclement weather and tight timelines.
