Hannah Hardaway, Kina Picket, Wendy Fischer, and Kalina Simeonova know the world's top skiing regions inside out. They too were surprised that Eastern Europe, which usually evokes associations such as the Black Sea and deck chairs, is home to a skiing resort with more than 30 miles of slopes, promising fantastic runs around the 9009-foot Todorka's summit. But in the south of Bulgaria, mountain ranges pile up that recall the tallest mountains of the Alps. And the fun to be had is still inexpensive. Bulgaria is popular with skiers that do not want to take out a loan to spend a week in the snow and still want the goods. The wedeling crowd, incidentally, is international.
