No long lines at the lift, untouched mountainsides and Canada's typical wide open spaces: That's skiing or snowboarding on 3,939-foot Mount Alyeska in a nutshell - a superlative snow fantasy. The almost untouched skiing region near the small ski village of Girdwood is located in the midst of the Chugach Mountains on Alaska's southern coast. Anchorage's Olympic medal winner, Tommy Moe, practices at the Alyeska Resort. Incidentally, the skiing region's base station is at sea level, which makes it truly exceptional. From the cableway, the view of the Turnagain Arm is spectacular.
