At the beginning, the skis were made of wood, the camera was 8mm and the Rocky Mountain snow was gigantic. In the last 60 years, endless powder runs and spectacular freestyle action took their place. Meanwhile, Warren Miller's ski movies have attained cult status. On October 29, "Dynasty," his latest release, will hit theaters.

In addition to lots of powder in the globe's fascinating destinations ski buffs dream off, Warren Miller movies feature action and exciting stories, great heroes, as well as foreign lands and cultures. Austrian Lorraine Huber and star skier Chris Davenport explore Norway's Lyngen Alps. Chris Anthony travels to China, looking for skiing's roots. But there is also no shortage of fun because Dynasty shows 60 years of comedy in ski movies. And young talents get a chance to show off their talents. In the current Dynasty release, that would be 10-year-old Alexis Roland. Fearless and intrepid, she plunges down the slopes on her snowboard to demonstrate that slides, grabs, and spins are not the prerogative of her professional colleagues at least twice her age.

In the U.S., the release of the latest Warren Miller movie has marked the official start of the season for years. In a total of 40 German, Austrian and Swiss cities the two-hour program will whet everyone's appetite for winter and powder spins. And there will be a raffle to boot, with the grand prize a trip for two to North America.
